The Indian telecom industry is pulling out all the stops to fast-track the uptake of green technologies in the space.
As a part of this, wireless operators and tower companies, in consultation with the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) roped in PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) India earlier this year. At the time, PwC was asked to recommend methods to help operators reduce carbon emissions.
Now, the industry is planning to broaden PwC?s mandate in this regard. As per news reports, the firm will be asked to suggest steps to help operators meet the targets set by DoT to implement green technologies.
Moreover, it may be requested to examine the viability of alternate technologies, such as batteries for reducing carbon emissions. PwC India may also be asked to assess whether India’s green telecom policy is aligned with global standards on containing carbon emissions as specified by the International Telecom Union (ITU).
