Bharti Airtel has called off the proposed $24 billion deal for amalgamation with South Africa’s MTN after nearly four months of discussions. According to Bharti Airtel, the deal structure did not receive the required approval from the South African government. The government expressed its inability to accept the deal in its current form and demanded dual listing of MTN, which is not permitted under the Indian regulatory framework.
