Red Hat releases the latest Red Hat Enterprise Linux

Red Hat, Inc. has announced the general availability of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 9.2 and the upcoming release of RHEL 8.8. These new releases will enable Red Hat to simplify and streamline complex Linux platform tasks across the hybrid cloud, encompassing data centres, public clouds and edge deployments. This will assist IT teams in overcoming staffing and skill shortages while improving efficiency in critical infrastructure areas.

RHEL 9.2 and 8.8 continue to expand the capabilities of system roles, which are RHEL-specific Ansible content designed to bring greater consistency and efficiency at scale by automating common administrative tasks. This means that several common Linux roles such as Microsoft SQL Server and virtual private networks can be readily configured, credentialed and deployed with rudimentary Linux knowledge. System roles future-proof deployments by making upgrades less disruptive, as their automated nature simplifies the reconfiguration of these functions. These roles are enhanced by the latest releases of RHEL system roles for Podman, Red Hat’s tool for developing, managing and running containers on Linux platforms.

Furthermore, the RHEL system role updates include expanded capabilities around Microsoft SQL Server and Microsoft Active Directory. These updates encompass the automation of SQL Server/Active Directory authentication, always-on availability group support and support for SQL Server 2022. Additionally, RHEL Image Builder now supports the creation and sharing of RHEL blueprints, both inside and outside of the data centre. Beyond this, the RHEL web console enhances IT security and compliance policy enforcement across the hybrid cloud. It enables administrators to perform a variety of configuration and management tasks from an intuitive browser interface. The web console now includes the ability to configure automatic encrypted disk unlocking on root filesystems by using network-bound disk encryption. Admins can also use the web console to select frequently used combinations of system-wide crypto policies, which ensures that all associated systems stay in line with compliance requirements and organisation-specific needs.

Spirent announces SimXona, an industry-first Xona satellite constellation simulator

Spirent Communications has announced that SimXona, its Xona satellite constellation simulator, has been fully certified by Xona Space Systems. Xona is in the process of developing PULSAR, a commercial positioning, navigation and timing (PNT) service that utilises a network of low earth orbit (LEO) small satellites as its foundation. Xona’s patented high-powered smallsat signals will improve PNT resilience and accuracy by augmenting global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) such as GPS while operating with an independent navigation and timing system architecture.

SimXona can simulate the Xona LEO constellation both independently and in conjunction with Spirent’s comprehensive PNT and threat simulation capabilities. Spirent has developed LEO simulation solutions for both the military and commercial sectors. These solutions include modelling software that integrates the simulation of precise LEO orbits with highly accurate GNSS signals, delivering greater realism for applications that demand zero margin for error.

Acronis simplifies endpoint security with a new EDR solution

Acronis International GmbH has announced the general availability of Acronis Advanced Security + Endpoint Detection & Response (EDR) for Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud. Incorporating cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI)-based attack analysis, Acronis EDR reduces complexity and simplifies workflow, leading to more streamlined operations. This capability enables managed service providers (MSPs) and the businesses they serve to deploy comprehensive security and data protection. As organisations increasingly rely on MSPs for backup and security needs, coupled with the growing demand for simplicity and efficiency, Acronis EDR aims to promote wider adoption of advanced security capabilities, helping organisations of all sizes in enhancing their protection measures.

Acronis EDR offers a comprehensive range of out-of-the-box recovery options, leveraging the integration with Acronis Cyber Protect’s backup and recovery, endpoint management and endpoint security capabilities.
