According to Vodafone Idea chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla, a pricing revival is critical for the Indian telecom sector which is plagued with the lowest tariffs while data consumption is highest in the world.

The telco has the lowest average revenue per user (ARPU) of Rs 114 and so has been pushing for an increase in tariffs to improve its financial standing.

In reference to the recent win of the Vodafone Group against the Indian government in a tax arbitration case, Birla clarified that Vodafone Idea will not derive any benefit from this as the case has no impact on the group’s  Indian subsidiary.
