Union Minister of State for Communications & IT, Sachin Pilot plans to push for a five year holiday on the 4 per cent entry tax levied by the Assam government on every box of telecom and IT gear moving into the state.
?
The entry tax has presented a hurdle for telecom and IT companies operating in the region. Not only has it increased their network rollout costs, but has even restricted the delivery of telecom gear consignments across the region, resulting in time and cost overruns for a host of projects.
?
Pilot is also expected to enlist the support of all North Eastern states? chief ministers to expedite the right of way (RoW) clearances to spur greenfield telecom network rollouts in the region.
