According to a government-constituted panel on the non-personal data framework, the Personal Data Protection (PDP) Bill should not seek to regulate non-personal data.
The panel is headed by Infosys cofounder S (Kris) Gopalakrishnan.
The panel had submitted a second draft for public comments on the non-personal data-sharing framework, based on the feedback it received earlier in 2020.
According to the draft, in order to ensure that the two frameworks are mutually exclusive yet work harmoniously with each other it would be advisable to delete these sections from the PDP Bill and ensure that they are appropriately covered under the NPD framework. Further, the panel said that it would be appropriate to amend the provisions of the PDP Bill to ensure that it does not regulate non-personal data.
