Hong Kong’s largest fixed line operator PCCW has acquired the area’s smallest wireless operator, Sunday Communications, for $244 million. The acquisition will mark PCCW’s return to Hong Kong’s highly saturated wireless market, which has 119 mobiles for every 100 users. The acquisition has triggered speculation about industry consolidation once again but analysts say that rationalisation is unlikely soon.
