Hughes Communication India Private Limited (HCIPL) has announced that Partho Banerjee, president and managing director (MD), has retired as of July 17, 2023. Banerjee has been a force in India’s satellite industry, having joined HCIPL in 1994 and assumed the role of President in 2001. Under Banerjee’s leadership, HCIPL commercialised several industry ‘firsts’ including the first distance education satellite business, the first Ku-band services over foreign satellites, and the first flight and maritime licence for satellite services in the country.
Commenting on the development, Ramesh Ramaswamy, executive vice president and general manager, International Division, Hughes, said, “Partho leaves a legacy of innovation and collaboration at HCIPL that sets us apart as an employer, a service provider and a partner to customers in India.”
Shivaji Chatterjee has assumed the role of president and MD of HCIPL, succeeding Banerjee and reporting to Ramaswamy.
Ramaswamy added, “A seasoned and results-oriented business head and technologist, Shivaji has extensive leadership experience at various levels in the company. I am confident that he will take HCIPL to even greater heights.”
