A parliamentary panel has urged the creation of a government-owned indigenous artificial intelligence (AI) server, highlighting its importance for data privacy, governance efficiency, and evidence-based policymaking. The panel noted that such an infrastructure would help India harness data securely while reducing reliance on external systems.
The recommendation forms part of a broader economic roadmap to ensure that India’s digital growth remains resilient, inclusive, and secure in the face of increasing dependence on AI and big data.
The panel stressed that a government AI server would be essential to protect sensitive data, reduce foreign dependencies, and cater to both governance and citizen-focused applications.
It also flagged the challenge of digital deserts in rural and underserved areas, calling for nationwide scaling of digital infrastructure, including AI capabilities, to bridge connectivity and service gaps.
