Pankaj Sachdeva, telecom director, Ramboll India, has been associated with the telecom infrastructure industry for the past 21 years. “For the first 15 years of my career, I worked in the active telecom infrastructure segment for global companies like Siemens, Ericsson, IBM and Motorola. After having gained hands-on experience in this space, I switched to passive telecom infrastructure and was associated with Viom Networks, Indus Towers and now Ramboll,” says Sachdeva. He has worked with several Indian public and private telecom firms. He has also played a key part in the launch of mobile networks in Bhutan and handled clients in Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
In his current role at Ramboll India, he is respon-sible for providing high-end technical solutions to clients and leading the organisations in its mission of offering holistic engineering solutions. The company’s client base comprises many companies for which Sachdeva has worked previously, enabling him to better understand their needs.
According to Sachdeva, “The Indian telecom industry is experiencing an exponential growth in data services. However, the call for this immense demand belies the challenges that tower companies face, including the lack of, aesthetics and EMF. The ever evolving infrastructure needs call for solutions that lead to low carbon footprints, fast and easy deployment, asthetics and safety. At Ramboll, we offer masts and towers that minimise wind load, foundations, logistics and installation cycles. We also deliver towers and poles with smart solutions and camouflage solutions, and undertake tower-loading validation activities to better utilise the existing tower base.”
Sachdeva considers setting up a new in-building solutions vertical at Indus Towers as one of his most memorable assignments. He likes to describe himself as a people manager and identifies relationship management as his key strength. “I am thankful to my parents for my humble upbringing that has laid the foundation of my working style that hinges on integrity, responsibility and empathy,” he says.
An electronics and communications engineer, he also has a management degree from the Faculty of Management Studies, Delhi. In his spare time, he loves watching movies and spending time with his parents, both of whom have been faculty at IIT and Delhi university; his wife, an associate professor at Delhi University; and their two children. “I am also fond of sketching, which to me is a form of meditation,” he adds.
