Pakistan’s telecom regulator, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), has announced the completion of almost 350 telecentres which will provide basic telecom services in rural regions. Called Rabta Ghars, the telecentres offer facilities including fixed line telephony, internet connectivity and fax.

The project was initiated in 2007, and was sponsored by various companies including Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited, Mobilink, Instaphone and Ufone. There are 104 telecentres in Sindh, 82 in Punjab, 86 in the North West Frontier Province, 62 in Baluchistan and 15 in other areas.
