
Pakistan-based telecom operator Mobilink has selected Chinese telecom equipment maker Huawei to deploy a commercial 16e network covering central business districts and hotspots in the country’s six major cities. According to the terms of the contract, Mobilink will use Huawei’s complete Wi-Max solution, including distributed base stations, an access service network gateway and a network management system, to provide broadband services.
Meanwhile, Huawei has signed a deal with Kenya-based cellular operator Safaricom for the provisioning of 3G infrastructure.
While the financial terms of the deal have not been revealed, Safaricom is learnt to have so far invested a total of $30 million in its 3G licence fees and network equipment.
