Orascom Telecom has launched 3G mobile services under the brand name Koryolink in North Korea. Reportedly, Koryolink will initially cover the capital, Pyongyang, with a population of more than 2 million, and eventually expand coverage to the rest of the country. Orascom won the state’s first mobile licence in January 2008.

The North Korean government holds a 25 per cent stake in Koryolink. Orascom Telecom also has operations in Egypt, Algeria, Tunisia, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Zimbabwe.
