Oppo has set up a 5G innovation lab at its Hyderabad R&D facility in an effort to bolster India’s position in the 5G industry.

The innovation lab seeks to enable the development of core 5G product technologies and accelerate its rollout in the country.

As part of this project, the India team will lead innovations for other countries as well including the Middle East, Africa, South Asia, Japan, and Europe.

Going forward, the handset manufacturer plans to set up three more functional labs dedicated to camera, power & battery, and performance.

Earlier in 2020, Oppo had said that it will invest $7 billion in developing core technologies in hardware, software and system along with 5G/6G, AI, AR, big data, and other frontier technologies over the next three years.
