China-based smartphone maker Oppo has upgraded its Oppo communication lab in partnership with Ericsson for enabling complete 5G research and development (R&D) process, including radio frequency (RF) front-end to software protocol updates, as well as, regional testing and tuning. The new Oppo Communication Lab comprises three modules- radio frequency lab, protocol lab and network simulation lab.
In a joint statement, Oppo stated that the upgraded lab will allow it to implement the latest 5G technologies in its smartphones and to partner with operators as they expand their 5G services. It further added that the network simulation lab has been set up with Ericsson while the protocol lab has been established in partnership with the testing technology provider, Keysight.
The network simulation Lab houses the ability to simulate 4G/5G networks of various operators and can provide communication services for up to 10,000 devices. This will allow the pre-testing requirements for 5G commercialisation.
