The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is likely to ask operators to connect their networks to Research In Motion’s (RIM) interception server in Mumbai by end-December, say news reports. This is to ensure operators deploy an interception solution for the BlackBerry services available on their networks.
Prior to this, operators had requested DoT to grant them time until February 2013 to comply with its directives on this issue.
Meanwhile, DoT has asked RIM to address the pending issues in its interception system and demonstrate the final solution on Vodafone India’s network.
Earlier, a team comprising of officials from DoT and the Intelligence Bureau expressed their concern over RIM’s interception solution. RIM, on its part, assured the government that it was working closely with Vodafone India and its vendors to develop the requisite solution.
