The government has said that operators will have to stop providing services such as BlackBerry Enterprise mail which cannot be monitored by law enforcement agencies, according to news reports.
Prior to this, BlackBerry-maker Research in Motion (RIM) has said that it cannot provide access to BlackBerry Enterprise Services (BES), as it does not possess any key and the security architecture is the same worldwide.
In response to this, G.K. Pillai, Union Home Secretary commented that it was the licencee?s duty (operators) to tell RIM that the company could not use the former?s network. He noted this was in line with a condition in the licence agreement between the government and service providers that states, “Whoever uses your network, we must be able to intercept that in a form to the satisfaction of the Law Enforcement Agency.”
