OpenAI has rolled out data residency support in India and other key Asian countries including Japan, Singapore, and South Korea, allowing local storage of user data.
Under this initiative, data from Indian users of ChatGPT Enterprise, ChatGPT Edu, and the OpenAI application programming interface (API) will be stored within the country. The move aims to support organisations in complying with local data sovereignty regulations while using OpenAI’s services for business operations or artificial intelligence (AI) driven development.
This update ensures that conversations, prompts, uploaded files, and other user content, across text, images, and vision, shared by Enterprise and Edu users in India will remain stored locally. Further, eligible API users can activate this feature by visiting the API Platform dashboard, creating a new project, and selecting their preferred country for data storage.
