OneWeb and Hughes Network Systems have signed a distribution pact to provide low-earth-orbit (LEO) connectivity services for the global airline market.

According to Hughes, the latest agreement enables it to bring the advantages of OneWeb system, including global reach, low latency, high speeds and enterprise-grade service, to airlines and select partners so they can meet the growing passenger demand for Wi-Fi.

As a global OneWeb distributor, Hughes will launch its LEO satellite in-flight connectivity (IFC) solutions, with its electronically steered antenna (ESA), to help airlines provide fast and reliable Wi-Fi for its passengers. The new Hughes LEO in-flight solutions also include an LEO-only offering along with a hybrid solution that leverages Hughes Fusion technologies to transform any geostationary orbit (GEO) aero service into fast, low-latency onboard Wi-Fi.
