The Meghalaya New and Renewable Energy Development Agency (MNREDA) is reportedly installing off-grid solar systems at 63 BharatNet-I sites across the state. These sites include government schools, integrated child development services (ICDS) centres, and community halls in a significant push for rural electrification and digital inclusion.
The initiative is aimed at ensuring uninterrupted power supply to BharatNet infrastructure in remote and underserved areas by leveraging clean energy solutions. By solarising critical rural institutions, the project is expected to enhance internet reliability and support digital services in areas with unstable or limited grid connectivity.
Under this effort, solar installations are currently underway at 22 government lower primary schools. Work has also commenced at 8 secondary schools, 4 ICDS centres, and 29 community halls, reflecting the government’s commitment to bridging the digital divide through renewable energy-backed infrastructure.
