NTT DoCoMo has achieved a maximum packet transmission rate of approximately 5 Gbps in the downlink using 100 MHz frequency bandwidth to a mobile station moving at 10 km an hour by increasing the number of multiple input multiple output (MIMO) transmitting and receiving antennas from six to 12 each. The company has also utilised proprietary received signal processing technology to achieve the feat. NTT DoCoMo is aiming to contribute to the global standardisation of 4G.
