NTT Limited has announced its plans to invest Rs 20 billion in a hyperscale data centre in Kolkata over the next few years. This is part of the ongoing $2.5 billion total investment plan in India announced by the company in 2021.
According to Shekhar Sharma, chief executive officer, NTT Global Data Centers and Cloud Infrastructure India, the company plans to build three data centre buildings for the hyperscale data centre in the Kolkata site. The IT load capacity of the data centre will be at least 25 MW, but considering the operational power requirement, it will be 40 MW. The campus will be spread over 7.5 acres of land.
In the first phase, NTT plans to spend about Rs 5 billion depending on demand from the region, while further investment will depend on demand. The company will add 280 MW of operational load spread over 2.5 million sq. ft. at its data centre campuses across the country in the coming two years.
