
Nortel has bagged a five-year $2 billion contract from Verizon Wireless to supply equipment and services to improve and expand the latter’s network. Under this agreement, Verizon Wireless plans to deploy additional CDMA2000 radio base stations, switching, IP platforms, optical networking solutions and related equipment with the help of professional services from Nortel. Meanwhile, AlcatelLucent has acquired Nortel’s UMTS radio access business and related assets for approximately $320 million. Consequently, one in four UMTS operators is using Alcatel-Lucent’s UMTS solutions.
