Telecom equipment supplier Nokia Solutions and Networks (NSN) has not accepted Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited?s (MTNL) purchase order for the latter?s network expansion, due to the security clause in the order. MTNL had placed the advance purchase order for NSN?s telecom equipment on March 4, 2015.
NSN was shortlisted in December 2013 as the lowest bidder for MTNL?s Rs 4 billion network expansion project. Under this, MTNL plans to install 1,080 3G base transceiver stations (BTS) and 800 2G BTS sites in Delhi and 1,080 3G and 566 2G BTS sites in Mumbai to its network.
Earlier in July 2015, NSN had approached the Department of Telecommunications to intervene in the matter of delayed purchase of equipment by MTNL. By March 2015, NSN had already submitted a Rs 492 million bank guarantee and had made arrangements with its own factories and third-party component suppliers to ensure timely deliveries of 2G and 3G networks.
