Nokia India has shut down its online music store, Nokia Music Store India.

According to a message on the company?s website, users will not be able to download music from Nokia Music Store India through their web browser, Nokia music player or Aditi. However, consumers can continue downloading music through Nokia Music Unlimited subscription.

Nokia?s move to close down the music store is part of its mobile first strategy, announced in 2011. At the time, the company had stated that there was a sharp decline in desktop downloads in India, following which it would have to close it online music store.

The Nokia Music Store India was launched in August, 2009. The store allowed users to browse and buy music and download it on PCs and compatible Nokia mobile devices. Going forward, all Nokia music unlimited compatible phones will offer buyers a free period of Nokia music unlimited subscription, following which customers will have the option of renewing their subscription for a fee.
