The Delhi high court has declined to issue any order that mandates linking of social media accounts with Aadhaar, PAN or voter ID card number for weeding out fake accounts.

As per the court, it would lead to data breach of genuine social media account holders to foreign countries.

A bench of Chief Justice D.N. Patel and Justice C. Hari Shankar said linking of accounts with social media platforms requires framing of policies or amendment in existing laws by the central government and this exercise cannot be done by the court.
