North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) has lowered tower installation fees by about 40 per cent in order to increase cell phone network connectivity in its areas. Earlier, a meeting was held between civic officials and tower company representatives in this regard.
The civic body’s standing committee finalised the revised tariffs, which will come into effect after the House approves them.
As per the revised rates, for pole sites with a height of up to 12 metres, a charge of Rs 25,000 has been set per operator for a five-year term. If the height surpasses 12 metres, the operator will have to pay a fixed fee of Rs 300,000 for a 5 year period for installation of mobile towers.
Aside from that, for the towers/poles installed without permission before January 2021, the permission fee will be charged for the period prior to January 30, 2017 as per the applicable rates.. To cover administrative costs, telecom service providers would be required to pay a one-time charge of Rs 10,000 for each application. The proposed charges can be reviewed after 5 years or even earlier if required.
