The cell broadcast (CB) service has reportedly been temporarily suspended following an advisory issued by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA). According to the advisory, the suspension has been implemented as a precautionary measure and will remain in force until further notice. The CB system serves as a critical public warning mechanism for disseminating emergency alerts and disaster-related information to mobile users in affected areas.
There was no specification of the exact reason for the suspension but indicated that technical or procedural reviews may be underway in coordination with relevant agencies.
The CB service is widely used to deliver real-time alerts during natural disasters, security incidents and other emergencies, enabling authorities to communicate rapidly with the public without relying on conventional mobile networks or internet connectivity.
Authorities said updates regarding the restoration of the service will be communicated following further directions from the NDMA. The suspension is expected to be temporary while the system’s functionality and operational protocols are reviewed.
The development comes weeks after the government of India launched a nationwide CB system in May 2026 as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s disaster warning and emergency communication infrastructure.
