The National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) has denied interim relief to Google in its appeal against the second order of the Competition Commission of India (CCI) imposing a penalty of Rs 9.36 billion on the company for misusing its dominant position in the market pertaining to its Play Store policies. NCLAT has asked Google to pay 10 per cent of the penalty to the registry within four weeks.

In October 2022, CCI imposed a penalty of Rs 9.36 billion on Google and issued a cease-and-desist order in which the regulator prescribed eight corrective measures that Google Play needs to implement to correct the anti-competitive practices.

The matter has now been listed for a detailed hearing in April 2023.
