As per the latest data released by DoT, nearly 400,000 5G base transceiver stations (BTSs) have been installed in India as of November 30, 2023. The data shows that the number of 5G BTSs deployed in the country has increased from 385,572 at the end of October 2023 to 397,923 at the end of November 2023, a month-on-month addition of 12,351 units.
IIT Madras Pravartak Technologies Foundation has launched a facility called the “ComNet Lab” for testing 5G networks and providing a one-stop solution for network security testing labs for the domestic and global markets. Its mission is to accelerate indigenous 5G secure solution development that would be suitable for the Indian environment and become the foremost security compliance testing lab for 5G networks.
The Odisha government has launched the Odisha state hydrological data centre in the Department of Water Resources for efficient management and optimum utilisation of water. In addition to a scientific analysis of weather forecasts, the data centre will collect and transmit real-time data pertaining to meteorology, stream flow, groundwater, water quality and water storage measurements of waterbodies.
Dixon Technologies’ subsidiary Padget Electronics has set up a new smartphone manufacturing facility in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, with an annual capacity of 25 million devices and an investment of Rs 2.56 billion. Padget has also commenced smartphone manufacturing for Xiaomi in the third quarter of 2023.
The Karnataka government has approved an additional investment of Rs 139.11 billion by Foxconn Hon Hai Technology India Mega Development Private Limited in Bengaluru. Foxconn is making an investment of Rs 85 billion for the manufacturing unit, which is expected to generate over 100,000 employment opportunities within the state in the next 10 years. The production at this plant is scheduled to commence by April 2024.
