Digital Connexion has announced the successful completion of the three-way joint venture (JV) between Brookfield Infrastructure, Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) and Digital Realty, marking a significant step towards developing data centres in India. The transaction, initially announced on July 24, 2023, will result in the three companies becoming equal shareholders, each owning a 33.33 per cent stake in the JV. With this announcement, the JV will assume a new identity as “Digital Connexion: A Brookfield, Reliance Jio and Digital Realty company”.

Nokia has announced that it has entered into an agreement with Airtel to deploy a next-generation optical transport network (OTN) that will provide additional capacity, higher reliability and lower cost, enabling superior services for Airtel’s customers. As part of the agreement, Airtel will utilise Nokia’s 1830 PSS-x OTN switches in its national long distance network, connecting major cities in India.

The Ministry of Defence has signed a contract worth Rs 5.88 billion with Telecommunications Consultants India Limited for the acquisition of the Digital Coast Guard project, under the Buy (Indian) category. The project is estimated to generate about 150,000 man-days over a span of five years, fostering active participation from diverse sectors of Indian industries, thus significantly contributing to the government’s efforts to achieve “atmanirbharta” in defence.

HFCL Limited has announced that it has won a purchase order worth Rs 670 million for the supply of OFC to one of the domestic telecom service providers in India. The order has been provided to HTL Limited, a subsidiary company of HFCL and it will contain various types of OFCs as per specifications provided by customers. The contract is expected to be executed by April 2024.

IIT Madras, IIT Kanpur and the Society for Applied Microwave Electronics Engineering and Research have licensed their 5G radio access network (RAN) subsystem to Tejas Networks for a sum of Rs 120 million. The 5G RAN technology was developed by the multi-institutional team at a 5G test bed developed indigenously via a collaborative project involving eight institutes and funded by DoT in May 2022.

Saankhya Labs, a subsidiary of Tejas Networks, has received a provisional purchase order of Rs 964.2 million from NewSpace India Limited to supply two-way mobile satellite service terminals for vessel communication and support system in marine fishing vessels for monitoring, control and surveillance along the coastal states of India. Once commissioned, the network shall provide vessel communication and support system, which will improve fishermen’s safety and security and mitigate seaborne threat concerns from a national security perspective.
