The non-executive employees union of Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) has said it will go on strike during the Commonwealth Games 2010, if the management cuts jobs in the company. MTNL has been designated as the official telecom service provider for Commonwealth Games 2010, to be held in Delhi, and it has already received Rs 1.82 billion from the government for providing infrastructure. The company was concerned about the huge wage bills and had reportedly approached the government for laying off up to two-thirds of its workforce.
