Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) has sought Rs 11.51 billion for interest payment of sovereign guarantee bonds in financial year 2024-25.
The government has taken various steps for revival of MTNL and Bharat Sanchar Nagam Limited (BSNL) in 2019 and 2022 including revival package to the public sector undertakings (PSUs). The government had allocated Rs 690 billion in the first revival package in 2019 to PSUs to bring down the operating costs. Meanwhile, the revival package worth Rs 1.64 trillion in 2022 was approved for upgrading BSNL services, allocating spectrum, de-stressing its balance sheet, and augmenting its fibre network by merging Bharat Broadband Nigam Limited (BBNL) with BSNL.
