Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) has registered a loss of Rs 7.30 billion for the quarter ended December 2014, against profits of Rs 4.28 billion during the quarter ended December 2013. However, the operator reduced its losses before other income, finance costs and exceptional items were reduced from Rs 9.76 billion for the quarter ended December 2013 to Rs 7.30 billion for the corresponding quarter in 2014. Profit in October-December 2013 quarter had occurred on account of inclusion of exceptional items worth Rs 14.40 billion.

The revenues declined by 4.33 per cent in revenues from Rs 8.53 billion in October-December 2013 to Rs 8.16 billion in October-December 2014.

MTNL reduced losses before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) for both basic and cellular operations. The basic operations business reported a loss of Rs 2.68 billion in October-December 2014, against the losses of Rs 7.71 billion in October-December 2013. The cellular business of the telecom operator also registered an improvement in its EBITDA losses from Rs 1.16 billion for the quarter ended December 2013 to Rs 1.03 billion for the quarter ended December 2014.
