MTNL has issued a Rs 10 billion draft tender for laying 4 million lines in Delhi and Mumbai. This is being seen as a move to kickstart its 3G services using WCDMA technology. The PSU has invited all major equipment vendors for a joint meeting on April 15 to discuss the project. MTNL is the first GSM-based mobile service provider to take a concrete step towards migrating to 3G. Third-generation services allow high speed data connectivity of 380 kbps and more on mobile phones.
