
In a written reply to the Rajya Sabha, Milind Deora, Minister of State for Communications and IT said that Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) is currently sharing its passive infrastructure with Reliance Communications, Bharti airtel, Vodafone Essar, Aircel and Idea Cellular, to generate revenue.
However, the incumbent is not sharing any base transceiver stations. MTNL is sharing 15 sites with Reliance Communications, two with Bharti airtel, five with Vodafone, eight with Idea Cellular and one with Aircel.
Deora also said that though MTNL is meeting the quality of services (QoS) benchmarks prescribed by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), a few subscribers have, nevertheless, complained about the operators? services. Also, Deora said that to further improve QoS, measures like BTS addition, capacity augmentation and upgradation, antenna tilting, optimisation of network and drive test are being undertaken by MTNL on a continuous basis.
