MTNL has posted a 56.6 per cent decline in net profit at Rs 1.4 billion for the fourth quarter ended March 2006, as compared to Rs 3.23 billion for the corresponding quarter last fiscal. Total income decreased 3.8 per cent to Rs 15.94 billion for the fourth quarter of 2005-06 as against Rs 16.57 billion in the same period the year before. For the year ended March 2006, the company posted a net profit of Rs 5.78 billion as compared to Rs 9.38 billion a year ago. The total income decreased to Rs 57.85 billion for 2005-06 from Rs 60.84 billion in the previous year.
