Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) have not yet provided the timeframe to the government for providing solutions facilitating the interception of Blackberry services on their network.
The government has set December 30, 2012 as the deadline for the operators. The only operator ready to demonstrate solutions for the interception of Blackberry services is Vodafone India. Bharti Airtel and Aircel have written to the government seeking another 12 to 16 weeks for submitting the solutions. Loop Telecom will be able to provide the required solution to the government in another four months whereas Tata Teleservices Limited has sought time till February 2013 for the submission of the solution to the government.
However, MTNL and BSNL have not approached the government on the issue at all.
Following the request for extension in submission of solution for intercepting BlackBerry services, the government has informed the operators that the BlackBerry interception solution is in the final stages of development and testing by Research In Motion (RIM) and the telecom service providers in conjunction with a legal intercepting (LI) vendor. The operators should deploy the developed solution in coordination with RIM and should offer the network for testing to the respective Telecom Enforcement Resource and Monitoring (TERM) on or before December 31, 2012.
