Motorola has decided to restructure and split into two companies one focusing on the mobile phone business and the other on the more profitable mobile enterprise and broadband operations.
The split is likely to be effected by 2009. According to Motorola, a separate company will lead to stronger focus on the mobile phone business, which is currently making losses. Motorola is currently in the midst of a $1 billion cost savings exercise, which involves the cutting of 7,500 jobs.
