The union minister of state (MoS) for rural development and communications held a review meeting with the Hyderabad police commissioner to discuss cybercrime and SIM-related fraud cases.

During the meeting, officials briefed the minister on Hyderabad cybercrime police’s recent Operation Octopus 3.0, which was carried out across 13 states.

In the video conference held from Delhi, the Hyderabad police commissioner explained how SIM cards were allegedly being regenerated illegally by vendors associated with different telecom service providers. Officials also informed the minister about the exploitation of vulnerable individuals by fraudsters to procure SIM cards in exchange for money.

According to the police, some middlemen were allegedly routing these SIM cards to countries such as Cambodia and Dubai, from where cybercrime operations were being carried out.
