Minister of state for communications and rural development discussed satellite communications and direct to device (D2D) technologies during a meeting with the president of Viasat.

The discussions also covered potential partnerships with Indian startups and entrepreneurs, opportunities to strengthen the Make in India initiative in the space and communications sector, and ways to expand safe and secure connectivity to remote and underserved areas across the country.

Last year, the India managing director of the United States based satellite operator Viasat, had said that the company is working with the Department of Telecommunications, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited, and original equipment manufacturers to scale up its direct to device business in India.
