Monojit Samaddar, Country Director, VIAVI
Monojit Samaddar serves as country director, VIAVI Solutions, guiding a portfolio that spans network testing, monitoring and assurance for telecommunications, cloud, and enterprise customers, as well as defence and aerospace. With a strong background in product strategy and management, he defines and drives VIAVI’s network and service enablement business across communication service providers, network equipment manufacturers, public sector undertakings, software firms, engineering enterprises, chipset developers, systems integrators, and aerospace and defence.
As a leader, he emphasises delegation and support, empowering teams, and fostering a culture of trust and ownership. “India’s telecom ecosystem is advancing rapidly. With 5G and emerging 6G technologies spearheading the nation’s digital transformation, India’s thriving and expanding digital economy is making significant strides. The production-linked incentive/design-linked incentive schemes for telecom and networking products have strengthened local manufacturing of telecom equipment,” he says.
Samaddar notes that digital transformation is moving the industry towards a new operating model that leverages AI, ML, and network orchestration and automation. With opportunities expanding, he views India as a significant market with a long-term growth path. “VIAVI offers the most comprehensive portfolio of end-to-end test and assurance solutions, and plays a significant role in simplifying network deployment complexities through installation, maintenance, monitoring, optimisation and monetisation,” he adds.
“India is experiencing a surge in fibre deployment, driven by the 5G roll-out, tower fiberisation and data centre growth. Also, with the Bharat 6G vision, India is playing a key role in enabling the development and advancement of 6G technologies,” he notes.
For him and VIAVI, telecommunications remain a major focus in the lab and in the field, with active engagement across aerospace and defence networks, satellite communications, 5G/6G, AI, cybersecurity, data centres and enterprise solutions.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in electronics and telecommunications engineering and a postgraduate diploma in marketing. He began his career with HFCL and brings over two decades of ICT experience, having worked with multinationals such as Telcordia, Huawei, Redknee, Tektronix, JDSU and Agilent.
Away from work, he plays percussion instruments and enjoys time together with his family and friends, without a phone in hand and with loads of stuff to talk about.
