In its recent orders, the ministry of home affairs (MHA) has clarified that recharge facilities for prepaid mobile connections are allowed to operate according to the relaxed lockdown guidelines released recently.

In a letter to chief secretaries of states, dated April 21, 2020, home secretary Ajay Bhalla, said that public utilities including recharge facilities for prepaid mobile connections are allowed to operate with standard operating procedure for social distancing.

The move will benefit around 450 million feature phone users who do not have access to internet connections or digital recharge facilities.
