To drive innovation and market adoption of high accuracy indoor positioning and related services, 22 companies have formed a group, ?In-Location Alliance?.
Nokia, Sony Mobile Communications, Samsung Electronics, Geomobile, Nordic Semiconductor, Dialog Semiconductor, Qualcomm among others have come together to form In-Location Alliance.
The group will focus on solutions offering high accuracy, low power consumption, mobility, implementability and usability for telecom services offered indoors. It will concentrate on creating an ecosystem that stimulates innovation, enhances service delivery, and accelerates the adoption of solutions and technologies that optimise the mobile experience.
The members of In-Location Alliance will execute their own pilot projects and present their data to the Alliance. The primary solutions suggested by the group members will be based on enhanced bluetooth 4.0 low-energy technology and Wi-Fi standards. The members of the group will start with pre-commercial pilots and business model verifications in 2012. The group expects to come out with mobile-handset based solution enabling the first consumer applications in the indoor mobile environment by 2013.
