According to the research firm eMarketer, Twitter will generate about $1 billion in advertising revenue in 2014 due to a surge in mobile advertising on its web microblogging service.

Also, mobile advertising will account for half of Twitter?s advertising revenue in 2013 and will make up for more than 60 per cent of the company?s advertising revenue by 2015. Twitter introduced mobile advertising in March 2012. Further, the research firm expects Twitter to earn advertising revenue of $950 million in 2014. In 2013, the company is expected to post advertising revenue of about $582.8 million.

Currently, Twitter has 200 million monthly users and is expected to float an initial public offering within next two years. According to eMarketer – Twitter has ultimately benefited from the increased focus on mobile devices by competitors like Google and Facebook, which have expanded their own mobile advertising offerings and worked hard to convince marketers to divert their marketing spends to mobile devices.
