The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) will begin testing mobile number portability (MNP) in Haryana on 8 November, 2010 and will launch live services on 25 November, according to reports. It is expected to be implemented in phases for the rest of the country.

MNP allows mobile subscribers to change their service providers without changing phone numbers. It has been delayed thrice in less than a year, with the deadline now being 20 December for a pan-India rollout.

Number portability was scheduled to be started in metros and category-A circles on 31 December, 2009, and on 1 April 2010 for the rest of the country. It was to be fully operational by October 31. However, various network-related issues cropped up, thereby delaying it further.
