In a bid to prevent unauthorised tapping of phones and avoid leaks of recordings, the Ministry of Home Affairs has formulated draft of standard operating procedure (SOP) for interception of calls.
Under this system, telecom operators will be required to put in place a two-tier structure by appointing a nodal officer each at the central level as well as the circle level, to check for unauthorised interception of messages.
Further the ministry has proposed amendments to the IT Act to insert new rules which will give power to investigating agencies to access any computer device and all the information stored in it.
