The Ministry of Finance has asked the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) to develop a roadmap and specify the timeline for implementing the “one nation-free roaming” concept, say news reports.
This would permit subscribers to use same number across the country without paying additional call charges.
DoT has informed the Ministry of Finance that it has started the process of implementing free roaming across the country and it is looking at completing the same by 2013. DoT further, stated that it is currently working on finalising the guidelines pertaining to unified licences for the forthcoming 2G spectrum auction. Once the auction process is over, it plans to speed up the process of implementing the “one nation-free roaming” concept.
