The Ministry of Communications and IT will soon meet telecom operators on the issue of frequent call drops. This comes after the Ministry received several complaints from customers of all telecom operators, such as Bharti Airtel, Idea Cellular, Reliance Communications and Vodafone India, about not getting through voice calls properly.
The complaints also concern overbilling, stating that the telecom operators do not rectify the problem and do not live up to the promise of providing a good communication network.
Operators often cite call drops to arise out of lack of spectrum and hurdles in installing mobile towers in residential areas due to radiation issues. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India has also laid down Quality of Service standards for basic telephone service (wireline) and cellular mobile telephone service.
