According to industry sources, Microsoft Corporation is planning to develop a large hyperscale data centre in Pune as part of its multi-city data centre strategy for India. The company’s India arm has acquired a 25-acre land in the Pimpri-Waghere locality of Pune through an agreement with Finolex industries to transfer the long-term lease for nearly Rs 3.29 billion to develop the data centre.
Finolex Industries has transferred its leasehold rights on the land parcel to Microsoft Corporation for the next 37 years until August 2059. The land parcel has the potential to develop a hyperscale cloud capacity data centre with a built-out capacity of 100 MW. The data centre is expected to be developed in the next 2-3 years.
